My serama, Genevieve, hatched 5 chicks. Two have gotten out and gotten killed so far. Yesterday I took her and the babies out to scratch around and she let one wander so far off I had to go round it up.
Is she just not a very good mommy? This is her first time hatching a brood and all, but she just doesn't seem with it.
Thoughts and opinions are welcome.

My husband finished the tractor over the weekend, but I just stopped to take pics today. Well, it's all done but the door. Right now the door is just sitting in front of the opening and is propped there with a cinder block LOL It's not very pretty, but it's made from what we had on hand.

I set my first batch of quail eggs. They are coturnix that my FIL bought. He's incubating some and I'm incubating the rest. I guess he wants a cushion in case something gets screwed up LOL.
I've never incubated quail eggs before, so I hope all goes well. They need to go at 99.5 just like chicken eggs, but coturnix only needs to incubate for 17 to 18 days.
I'll keep you up to date on these eggs. The serama eggs were in fact clear, so I threw them out yesterday. Oh well......there will be more eggs.
Well darn. I set 9 eggs and the day before yesterday was day 5 so I candled. They all look clear
I'm disappointed but what can you do?
I'm hoping that my husband will say that I can get some hatching eggs from somewhere else. He's been really hesitant about it though......I guess we'll see!!
Bob Dylan can add one more award to his mantle. He's been awarded an Honorary (or Special Citation) Pulitzer Prize!
Here's what they said: "A Special Citation to Bob Dylan for his profound impact on popular music and American culture, marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power."
Wahoo! Way to go Bobby D!
My husband has started work on a chicken tractor. So far he's got the frame done and mesh on the bottom of it. Hopefully he'll have more time soon to finish it, as I hate having my chickens living in the garage. This will be just for the babies and seramas. The turkeys may be moving in with the large chickens soon. They seem to get along ok with the exception of Kashi randomly attacking them. She's an odd one and doesn't attack them all the time.....just when she feels like it.
Here are some pictures of the tractor so far. I'll post more as more work is done.

Well, my seramas from my first hatch are nearly 2 months old now. I thought I'd give some pictures and some guesses as to their genders.
This is Little Bit. I believe she's a female and she's TINY! She is the one that nearly died and I had to do mouth-to-beak to.

This is Mostly White. I believe that this is also a female.

Feathered One. I believe this is a male.

Black Beard. I think this is also a male.

Ok, so the ones I think are males have started this chest bumping thing and are starting to act oh-so macho. We know that Black Beard has been trying to crow, so there's really no question that that's a boy. I've always believed that Feathered One was a boy. Mostly White and Little Bit act very docile and I've not witnessed them acting at all like the two males. They also have a much rounder and fuller chest. If you think differently, please let me know.
The site is set to launch today, about noon. We hit a bump trying to do it last night. It's irritating, but hopefully corrected.
I'm very excited to get the new site going.
I'm nearly done with the website. I hope everyone will like it. I'm waiting until the 1st to debut it.........I'm quite excited! There's so much to do on this new site....uploading music to your profile, integrated forum and website (that means ONE registration and ONE log in - this will be done just before switching the site over) and of course, blogging! That's not all. There's much to be discovered here.
Five days til launch.........I can't wait. Til then I'll be tweaking the site and trying to make it as perfect as possible.
Right now I'm hard at work on the new site. I haven't told anyone about what I'm doing. Hopefully I can get it all finished and ready to debut by April 1st.
There is still much work to be done. Hopefully I'll have enough done in the next day or two to let people in on the "change" that's coming!
